Coast Guard, Customs get new patrol boats vs smuggling
MANILA, Philippines — To win the war against smuggling, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) would jointly man three brand-new French patrol boats, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said.
Dominguez was the guest of honor in yesterday’s commissioning of the brand new 24-meter fast patrol boats, BRP Boracay and BRP Panglao, which would be turned over by the PCG to the BOC.
Two more French vessels are scheduled to arrive in December, one of which would be given to the BOC.
Dominguez said “drugs are the most perilous” of all the items being smuggled.
BOC Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said one boat would be deployed in the Visayas and another to Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. The third ship would conduct patrols in Manila Bay, Batangas and Bataan.
