3 suspects slain in shootout with cops

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — Three alleged members of a criminal gang were shot dead after they allegedly fired at law enforcers serving a search warrant at their hideout in Barangay Cupang, Antipolo, Rizal yesterday morning.

Senior Superintendent Lou Evangelista, Rizal police director, identified the fatalities as Jhay Ar Despojo, alias Tisoy, the alleged leader of the gang; Darry Alvarado, alias Batik, and a certain Vincent.

Evangelista said the raid was based on a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms issued by a local court.

Police said two caliber .38 revolvers, various types of ammunition, a grenade, three motorcycles, a Toyota Revo, sachets of shabu and drug paraphernalia were recovered from the fatalities.

The  suspects were tagged in robberies, carjackings and sale of illegal drugs in the town.

Four other occupants of the house were arrested. – Cecille Suerte Felipe
