Women’s groups back Junjun Binay

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Members of women’s groups in Makati yesterday expressed their support for former mayor Junjun Binay should he decide to run in the 2019 midterm elections to reclaim the mayoralty post.

Marjorie Bindoy of the women’s group Kalipi said they are ready to back Binay if he runs for mayor.

Bindoy said they believe that Binay would promote women’s welfare and development just like his father, former vice president Jejomar Binay, who formed Women’s Watch in 2000.

“When Junjun took over as mayor in 2010, he continued the programs initiated by his father to advance the interests of women,” she said.

The groups, in coordination with the Makati Social Welfare Department, help provide legal assistance to women who are victims of domestic violence.

They encouraged Junjun to run again for mayor.

“He is helpful and easy to approach like the former vice president,” Em Macatangay said.

Junjun earlier said he is ready to challenge the reelection bid of his sister, Mayor Abby Binay, who claimed to have received their father’s “blessing.”
