P14.6 million drugs seized at NAIA
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs yesterday turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency P14.6 million worth of drugs found in three parcels sent through the Central Mail Exchange Center and the DHL warehouse at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The first parcel contained 2,329 grams of cocaine, with a street value of P12.3 million, said Commissioner Isidro Lapeña. It was sent by Thiago Paulo of Sao Paolo, Brazil to Johnmel Natividad of Caloocan City.
The second parcel contained 204.9 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, with a street value of P1.4 million, hidden in baby suits and birthday cards. The parcel came from the United Kingdom and was consigned to Joy Bido Marieo of Dasmariñas, Cavite.
The third parcel contained 500.42 grams of marijuana, with a street value of P850,000, hidden in a portable heater. It was addressed to Ravan Delosa of Quezon City from California in the United States.
Meanwhile, a meter-long mangrove snake, concealed in a parcel containing an automatic voltage regulator bound for Taiwan, was confiscated and turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources representative at the airport.
In Quezon City, an estimated 27 kilos of marijuana, with a street value of P3.2 million, was seized from Jomel Bernas, 26, during a sting on Wednesday. – Romina Cabrera
