Parts of Bulacan on poll watchlist
MALOLOS, Philippines — Two towns and a city in Bulacan are on the list of election areas of concern of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in next year’s elections.
San Rafael, San Ildefonso and San Jose del Monte are on the list due to recent killings of local government officials, Senior Superintendent Chito Bersaluna, Bulacan police director, said yesterday.
Bersaluna said the PNP is monitoring the areas for election-related incidents.
He said more areas in Bulacan might be added to the poll watchlist after the filing of COCs on Oct 17.
In Negros Occidental, police said the towns of Moises Padilla, Isabela and Toboso as well as Escalante City might be declared election areas of concern.
Superintendent Rodolfo Castil, provincial police director, said the areas are being monitored for atrocities committed by New People’s Army rebels in the past several months.
Castil said 27 other towns and cities in Negros Occidental are being monitored for possible election-related violence. – Gilbert Bayoran
