Fire breaks out in Bilibid
MANILA, Philippines — A fire broke out at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City early yesterday morning.
Arson probers said the fire razed the Samsung building at the NBP’s medium security compound at past 3 a.m.
The Bureau of Fire Protection said the blaze immediately spread because the dried leaves used by inmates in handicraft were stored in the building.
The fire reached the fourth alarm before it was declared under control at past 8 a.m.
No inmates or jail personnel were injured during the incident.
Arson investigators said the fire could have been caused by faulty electrical wiring.
The building has a floor area of 1,500 square meters where the inmates are doing their craft.
Meanwhile, in Taguig City, a fire of unknown origin struck a housing unit for policemen in Barangay Ususan on Tuesday night.
City fire marshal Annajoy Parungaw said the fire started at the house of Bernardo Mendoza, a police officer assigned in Mindanao. — Robertzon Ramirez
