2 cops slain in Caloocan City
MANILA, Philippines — Two police officers were killed in separate shootings in Caloocan City since Monday night.
Police Officer 1 Marvin German, 31, assigned with the Northern Police District (NPD) administrative holding unit, was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants along D. Aquino street at around 8:30 a.m. yesterday.
German was declared dead on arrival at the Caloocan City Medical Center from gunshots to the body.
Reports said German was on a motorcycle on his way to work when he was waylaid.
Police Officer 3 Ernesto Estrellas Jr. of the NPD headquarters support unit was shot dead in an alleged encounter with operatives of the Philippine National Police Counter-Intelligence Task Force along Dagat-Dagatan Avenue in Barangay 14 on Monday.
Police said they recovered from Estrellas three sachets of shabu, a 9mm pistol and ammunition.
NPD director Chief Superintendent Gregorio Lim said they were looking into Estrellas’ alleged involvement in illegal activities.
