Councilor stabbed, shot dead
SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – A municipal councilor was stabbed and shot dead by unidentified assailants in Sasmuan town in this province yesterday morning.
Jesus Angeles was exercising in Barangay Sta. Lucia when he was attacked at around 6:30 a.m., according to Rosve Henson, provincial board member.
Angeles was reportedly planning to run for vice mayor of Sasmuan in the 2019 midterm elections.
Angeles suffered eight stab and two gunshot wounds. He died while being treated at a hospital.
Witnesses told police the assailants were wearing face masks.
Vice Gov. Dennis Pineda condemned the killing and called for a speedy resolution of the case. He urged authorities to increase police visibility, noting the date of the filing of certificates of candidacy for the next year’s elections is nearing.
Angeles was a member of the Kambilan party, a local political party led by Gov. Lilia Pineda.
