Albay town mayor held for unlicensed gun
MANILA, Philippines — The mayor of Bacacay town in Albay was arrested at a casino in Pasay City on Friday for alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Armando Romano was arrested after an X-ray scanner detected a 9mm pistol in his luggage, Senior Superintendent Eliseo Cruz, Southern Police District chief, said.
Romano was invited to the Villamor police community precinct, where he personally opened his luggage.
Police said Romano failed to present the necessary documents.
Cruz said the mayor faces charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Senior Superintendent Noel Flores, city police chief, said Romano would remain in police custody while waiting for inquest proceedings.
