POEA lifts deployment ban to Micronesia

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino workers are now allowed to return and work in Micronesia following the partial lifting of the deployment ban.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello yesterday reported that the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has approved a resolution partially lifting the deployment ban on Micronesia upon the recommendation of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Bello said the POEA previously imposed a total ban on the deployment of Filipino workers to Micronesia based on the DFA’s recommendation following a complaint that Filipino workers employed in a Micronesian hospital were being abused and not being paid.

But Bello said they have received letters and affidavits from Filipino workers in Micronesia that there is no such incident of non-payment of wages among Filipino workers.
