TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines — An overseas Filipino worker died following a shootout between two police officers, who were also wounded during a row at a bar in Barangay Magapit in Lal-lo, Cagayan at dawn on Saturday.

Lal-lo police chief Inspector Ramon Macarubbo said Senior Inspector Jeffrey Equuizabal, who is assigned with the police regional office here, and Police Officer 1 Mike Sosa of Gonzaga police station shot it out, hitting Edward Opiña who died on the spot.

Reports showed that Opiña, who was with Equuizabal, was reprimanded by Sosa after becoming unruly at around 2:30 a.m.

The incident sparked an altercation between Sosa and Equuizabal that led to the shootout.

Equuizabal was rushed to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center here, and Sosa to a private hospital in nearby Camalaniugan town.

Six shells of caliber 9mm bullets were recovered from the crime scene.
