MANILA, Philippines — The construction of a bridge linking a major village in Las Piñas City to neighboring Cavite province continues to face opposition from a group of residents.

Insisting that the bridge currently undergoing construction along Onelia Jose Street corner F. Dela Cruz Street inside BF Resort Village in Las Pinas poses a security risk to residents, some homeowners are scheduled to hold a motorcade this Sunday, September 23, as a sign of protest.

The bridge will connect to Barangay San Nicholas, Bacoor, Cavite, also providing access to Molino Road.

At least 50 vehicles manned by a group of concerned homeowners are expected to join Sunday morning’s motorcade covering the major streets and sectors of BF Resort.

Euan Toralballa, the group’s representative and chief organizer of the motorcade, said the construction of the bridge commenced even without consulting homeowners, whose security he claims would be compromised once another access point within the village is opened.

He said the motorcade aims to back the petition they filed last August 19 calling for the stoppage of the bridge’s construction.

The petition, which has been addressed to the BF Resort Village Home Owners Association Inc., claims that the bridge would connect the village to “undeveloped lands which are inhabited by informal settlers.”

Additionally, the petition says the bridge would continue to worsen the traffic in the village and “put a strain” on its security force.

“The current security force is overwhelmed already by the amount of security incidents happening daily within our village,” it reads.

The said petition has also been filed in change.org and has over 1,000 signatures as of posting time.

Toralballa said they also plan to hold a signature campaign during the motorcade to compliment the petition. The motorcade will start at 9 a.m. at the White Cup/Casa Calara and is expected to last until 12 p.m.
