No UPCAT dates yet

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines has yet to announce the schedule for its college admission test (UPCAT), which was postponed due to Typhoon Ompong. 

In an advisory issued yesterday, the UP Office of Admissions clarified that an annoucement of the UPCAT administration dates circulating on social media is not official. 

“We have yet to finalize the new schedule after assessing the condition of test centers nationwide,” read the advisory. “We are asking the public and UPCAT examinees to disregard that announcement.”

The university said the official announcement on the exam schedule would come only from the Office of Admissions. 

The university suspended the two-day UPCAT last week due to the bad weather.

The Office of Admissions said the decision was made following consultations with university officials and weather experts.

“The postponement was in consideration of the nationwide scope of the exams that entails synchronized travel arrangements among others, which posed risks to the examinees and UP personnel,” UP declared.

Over 100,000 graduating senior high school students are expected to take the UPCAT at 85 testing centers nationwide. 

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said there was nothing irregular about the visit of police officers at the UP campus in Diliman, Quezon City last week.

Contrary to reports that they were looking  for student regent Ivy Joy Tarona, PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr. said the policemen only sought assistance from UP officials to improve the PNP Museum at Camp Crame.   – Emmanuel Tupas
