2 nabbed for selling DepEd laptop
MANILA, Philippines — Two women have been arrested for selling a stolen laptop owned by the Department of Education (DepEd), the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said yesterday.
QCPD director Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel Jr. said Salvacion Marco, 27, and Jellyn Gabito, 30, were caught in an entrapment operation at a mall in Barangay Pasong Putik at around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 7.
They face charges for violating Presidential Decree 1612, the Anti-Fencing Law.
Esquivel said the laptop was stolen from a teacher in Tabuk City, Kalinga on Aug. 2. They were selling the computer at a social media site for P11,000, way below its original price of P39,976.95.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones said the laptop has a distinct blue logo which appears upon startup.
Esquivel said a manhunt is ongoing for store owner Alberto Galcim; Angelo Rabe, the one who posted the item online and an alias Ganda, their alleged supplier.
“It is the supplier who has information on the person who gave them the laptop,” he said.
