Marine killed in Sultan Kudarat clash with Reds

MANILA, Philippines — A Marine was killed while another was wounded in an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Sultan Kudarat over the weekend.

According to reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo, the clash occurred when personnel of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 2 chanced upon the rebels in Sitio Sinapsap, Barangay Sangay in Kalamansig. The encounter lasted for around 30 minutes. 

The still unidentified Marine was brought to a hospital in Cotabato City, where he was pronounced dead.

The wounded soldier is now in stable condition in the same hospital.
