BIFF men slain in Sultan Kudarat AFP offensive
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Two members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) were killed yesterday as the military continued pursuit operations for the perpetrators of bombings in Isulan town in Sultan Kudarat last week.
Citing reports reaching his office, Lt. Col. Gerry Besana, spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command, said the ongoing military offensive was launched by the Joint Task Force Central.
Besana said initial investigation pointed to the group of Abu Toraife as the bombers.
“As we all know the group... swore allegiance to the Islamic State, kaya todo ang bantay,” Besana said.
Authorities placed Central Mindanao under tight watch amid reports that the BIFF will launch more attacks.
Philippine National Police Deputy Director General Archie Gamboa and officials of the Soccsksargen and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police held a meeting in General Santos City on Wednesday to strengthen security measures to prevent a repeat of the bombings.
Reports have been circulating since Monday that Toraife’s group are targeting several areas in Sultan Kudarat. – John Unson
