MANILA, Philippines — A Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) employee and three others were killed in separate shootings in the cities of Muntinlupa and Makati since Sunday.

BuCor officer Inspector Romel Awtiga Reyes, 41, was gunned down along the New Bilibid Prison Road near the NBP Reservation’s sunken garden at past 4 p.m. Sunday.

Police said he was a member of the BuCor’s Bureau of Reservation Security Services.

Investigators have yet to determine the identity of Reyes’ assailant, who was seen on closed-circuit television footage wearing a white helmet and riding a blue motorcycle.

However, BuCor chief Ronald dela Rosa said yesterday that police are looking into either Reyes’ alleged solicitation of money from visitors of NBP inmates or his alleged extramarital affairs.

Reyes was fired and charges have been filed against him for the alleged solicitation, he added.

Meanwhile, tricycle driver Eric Bernardino Pineda was killed and school service driver Ramon Pineda Macaraeg, 29, was wounded when Pineda’s nephew, identified only as Ryan, and a companion allegedly shot them along P. Victor street in Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City at past midnight on Sunday.

The victims were repairing a motorcycle near Macaraeg’s house when Ryan and his unidentified companion attacked, police said.

Ryan had filed a complaint with barangay officials accusing the victims of allegedly hitting his motorcycle while high on drugs.

Also in Makati, customs broker Garry Garcia Gabriel, 38, shot dead his estranged wife, Imee Eusebio Gabriel, 39, before killing himself in his house on P. Domingo street in Barangay Carmona at around 2 a.m. yesterday.

Garry and Imee were declared dead on arrival at the Makati Medical Center. Garry had a gunshot wound in the right temple while Imee was shot in the chest and head.

Imee, who was living apart from Garry, had gone to his house. The two had a heated argument and gunshots were heard in the house, police said.

Investigators found a Glock19 9mm pistol and fired cartridge cases at the crime scene.
