MMDA: Bridge closure to worsen EDSA traffic
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday warned that the closure of two major bridges would mean heavier traffic on EDSA.
The repair of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, which connects the cities of Makati and Mandaluyong, would force around 100,000 motorists who use the bridge each day to pass through EDSA once the project starts this month, MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia said.
The Sta. Mesa Bridge, which connects San Juan and Quezon City, will be closed for almost seven months to make way for the construction of the Skyway project.
With the closure of two major bridges in the metropolis, Garcia appealed to motorists to become responsible car owners by observing traffic rules and regulations.
The MMDA recently introduced traffic reduction measures such as banning provincial buses on EDSA during rush hours and conducting a dry run of the ban on driver-only vehicles on EDSA.
