Barangay chief’s son held for drugs

MANILA, Philippines — A son of a barangay chairman in Marikina City and two others were arrested for alleged drug possession on Monday.

Marc Fernand Mira, 28, was nabbed along with Markson Ramiro, 32, and Joey Magat, 32, at the corner of Ampalaya and Palay streets in Barangay Tumana.

City police chief Senior Superintendent Roger Quesada said an informant tipped off Inspector Gerardo Nuestro, commander of the Police Community Precinct 4, that the suspects were allegedly pushing drugs in the area.

In Caloocan, suspected drug pusher Rodel Tayag was killed in a supposed encounter with police.

Tayag allegedly fired at Police Officer 2 Anthony Marquez, who retaliated.

Police said they recovered a 9mm pistol and four sachets of shabu from the suspect.

In Quezon City, police arrested 34 suspected drug pushers and users in the past two days.

Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel Jr., director of the Quezon City Police District, said the suspects were collared in separate stings in Barangays Baesa, San Antonio, Nagkaisang Nayon, E. Rodriguez and Payatas.

In eastern Metro Manila, six persons were apprehended in anti-narcotics operations.

They were Salamodin Arba, 32; Ryan Legaspi, 25; Joey Ecat, 37; Sherwin Aggulo, 27; Danilo Angeles, 55, and Ceasar Carillo.

The suspects were nabbed in Marikina, Mandaluyong, Pasig and San Juan City.

In Manila, police collared a 17-year-old boy for alleged possession of shabu worth P300,000.

Superintendent Ruben Ramos, chief of the Manila Police District Station 8, said the boy was not on the drug watchlist.

The suspect admitted to police that he started as a drug courier last year and paid P2,000 for every delivery.
