2 charged for P4 million theft in Pasay City restaurant
MANILA, Philippines — Two men were charged yesterday for allegedly stealing nearly P4 million in cash, checks and other items from a Chinese tourist in a restaurant in Pasay City on Aug. 22.
Richard Rivera, 38, and Joseph Feliciano, 45, underwent inquest proceedings on charges of theft before the city prosecutor yesterday.
Another suspect, Wilson Nukdi Manda, 34, remains at large. He acted as the group’s lookout, according to probers.
Police said Qing Rong Li, 42, was having dinner at Xiao Long Kan restaurant along Macapagal Boulevard at around 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 when she noticed his bag – which contained an iPhone worth P50,000, P250,000 cash and signed checks worth P3.5 million – was missing.
Closed-circuit television videos showed the suspects arriving at the restaurant in a Toyota Vios and them leaving after snatching Qing’s bag.
Police traced the Vios to an overseas Filipino worker engaged in a rent-a-car business. The OFW’s relatives said Feliciano rented the car and returned it last Saturday.
Feliciano identified Rivera and Manda as his alleged accomplices.
Police seized at Rivera’s house in Silang, Cavite Qing’s driver’s license, a casino VIP card, automated teller machine cards and a signed check worth P1.5 million.
