MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Luis has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility, but it will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat) that will bring scattered, moderate to heavy rains in some parts of the country, the state weather bureau reported.

At 10 p.m. Friday, "Luis" was spotted 55 kilometers north northwest of Basco, Batanes, or outside PAR. At 3 a.m. Saturday, the tropical depression was located 595 km north northwest of extreme northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

Luis is moving north northeast at 8 kph.

According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, or PAGASA, the southwest monsoon enhanced by "Luis" will affect the western section of Luzon.

In its 4 a.m. weather forecast Saturday, PAGASA said Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Zambales and Bataan will experience monsoon rains that may trigger possible flooding and landslide.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila, rest of Central Luzon and of Cagayan Valley Region, CALABARZON and Mindoro provinces can expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to habagat, while localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers over the rest of the country.
