1 dead in Maguindanao road accident

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines  — A 61-year-old woman was killed and nine others were injured in a road accident along a highway in Sultan Kudarat town Tuesday.

The fatality was identified as Lambaina Dagandal, who was declared dead on arrival in a hospital in nearby Cotabato City.

Investigators said Dagandal was near the entrance to a roadside events place where a wedding of a relative was being held when she was hit by a speeding green passenger van that also hit other parked vehicles.

Senior Inspector Jemar Delos Santos, information officer of the Police Regional Office-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said PRO-ARMM will compel the owner of the van, Kamarudin Mambayao, to extend assistance to the family of Dagandal.

Delos Santos said the Sultan Kudarat municipal police will also let Mambayao help pay for the hospitalization of the accident victims.
