2 robbers, civilian slain in shootout
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Two suspected robbers were killed in an alleged shootout with police officers in this city on Friday, which also left a civilian dead and three others wounded.
Armele Espadon and his cousin Ryan Alib, who were accused of robbing a salesman in a delivery van in Bago City, reportedly fired at law enforcers when cornered in Barangay Sum-ag.
Pedicab driver Delfin Ortiz, 70, was hit by a stray bullet and died while being treated at the Bacolod South General Hospital.
Two .38-caliber revolvers, an M16 rifle, a motorcycle, a cell phone and P39,400 in cash were recovered from the slain suspects.
Estrella Claridad, 71; Walter Dojena, and Mikaela Malabor, 15, daughter of Isabela Mayor Joselito Malabor, were also hit by stray bullets and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Senior Inspector Hercules Trigue, Bago deputy police chief, said the driver of the delivery van, an alleged accomplice of the fatalities, was arrested.
