Soldier hurt in Ilocos Sur NPA attack

TUGUEGARAO, Cagayan, Philippines — A soldier was wounded when suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels raided an Army camp in Barangay Bugbuga, Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur on Friday. 

First Lt. Rey Anfone, civil-military operations officer of the 81st Infantry Battalion, was hit by shrapnel when the  rebels reportedly fired a rocket-propelled grenade that destroyed the guard house.

In Surigao del Sur, Cresencio Pardillo, an assistant of Jorge Madlos of the NPA’s National Operational Command Mindanao Committee, was arrested in Bislig on Friday.

The arrest was based on a warrant issued by a court in Agusan del Sur on April 10. – Ben Serrano
