Leni Robredo pays P50,000 fine, seeks PET clarification
MANILA, Philippines — The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo yesterday paid the P50,000 fine imposed by the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), for issuing public statements in connection with the election protest filed by former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
In an eight-page manifestation, filed in time with the payment of the fine, Robredo’s lawyer Romulo Macalintal also asked the tribunal to clarify which statements from their camp were the basis of the penalty.
Macalintal noted that the statements that they issued were made as an act of self-defense following the supposed claims of irregularities by the camp of Marcos.
Last June, the PET ordered the camps of Robredo and Marcos to pay the P50,000 fine for violating a gag order issued in October.
