Robbery gang leader shot dead in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines — An alleged leader of a robbery group was shot dead in what police said was a shootout in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.

Rolando Guanzon, alias Toto, died at the scene from multiple gunshots to the body.

Guanzon’s two cohorts managed to escape.

Police said they conducted an operation along Aguilar street in Barangay Bungad after receiving information that the suspects would pull off a heist in the area at around 2 a.m.

Instead of yielding, Guanzon allegedly fired at the policemen who retaliated.

The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Quezon City police.
