Reds kill 2 farmers in Quezon Province
CAMP GUILLERMO NAKAR, Philippines — Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels shot dead two farmers in separate incidents in Quezon on Thursday.
Senior Superintendent Osmundo de Guzman, Quezon police director, identified the fatalities as Marvin Flores, 35, a resident of Barangay San Juan, San Narciso, and Efren Aguila, 48, of Cabuyao Sur, Padre Burgos.
In a statement sent to The STAR, the NPA’s Apolonio Mendoza Command said it was responsible for the killing of Aguila, who is reportedly a former military informant.
Police said Flores was a rebel returnee and a former militiaman.
In Negros Occidental, soldiers recovered an NPA camp following an encounter in Barangay San Agustin, Isabela, Negros Occidental also on Thursday. – Emmanuel Tupas, Gilbert Bayoran
