Man arrested for P250,000 chapel heist

MANILA, Philippines — One of four suspects in the July 14 robbery of a chapel in Marikina City was arrested on Wednesday.

Jun Carl Mujer, alias Obama, 18, was identified by witness Julius Lazatin as one of the men who looted the chapel located at the corner of C. Cruz and S. dela Paz streets in Barangay Sta. Elena, said Senior Superintendent Bernabe Balba, Eastern Police District director.

Balba ordered a manhunt for the other suspects, identified as Eric Llamis, Francis Mapahin alias Reggie and an alias Kokong.

Bernard San Jose, 46, a senior administrative officer and chairman of the pastoral council, said among the missing items – worth around P250,000 – were six crowns, five chalices, a silver cross, three bronze cantero, a sacristan bell, an amplifier, a sound mixer, a DVD player, a 42-inch flat-screen television set and three microphones.

Senior Superintendent Roger Quesada, Marikina police chief, said they were able to solve the case with the help of another witness, Marvin Eres, 20, who claimed the suspects boasted about the robbery.
