Quezon City teachers get lapel mics
MANILA, Philippines — Over 3,000 public school teachers in Quezon City have received lapel microphones from the city government.
Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte on Saturday led the distribution of the lapel microphones to 1,262 junior high school and 2,096 elementary school teachers in districts one, three and four.
Belmonte said this is the second batch of lapel mics distributed to teachers, with another set to be given out within the year.
The project is part of the local government’s efforts to make teachers more effective in educating the growing number of students in the city.
“This is one of the things that you asked for,” Belmonte said. “I had a consultation with the teachers and when I asked what I can help you with, one of your answers was lapel mics.”
The vice mayor promised to provide other items on the “wish list” of public school teachers, such as the installation of electric fans in classrooms and provision of sound system.
Belmonte asked the teachers to be patient as the items need to undergo public bidding.
She vowed to help teachers financially by increasing the allowances they receive from the city government.
Earlier, the Quezon City Council raised the supplemental monthly allowance of teachers from P1,000 to P1,500 and longevity pay from P200 to P300.
Belmonte said the city council has approved on first reading the proposed increase in quarterly rice allowance for teaching and non-teaching staff from P1,500 to P2,000.
