ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A businessman was kidnapped in Kabasalan town in Zamboanga Sibugay on Sunday.

Alejandro Bation, 58, who manages an aqua-marine business and owns vast tracts of fish ponds, was taken by unidentified gunmen from his house in Purok 3, Barangay Nazareth at around 8:35 p.m., according to a report received by Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, Zamboanga peninsula police director.

Police said Bation was watching television with his two sons and a helper when the gunmen entered and took the businessman.

“The suspects, who were wearing military and police uniforms... pointed their guns at the victim and dragged him out of his house,” Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, regional police spokesperson, said, quoting the police report.

The kidnappers took Bation to a wharf near his house and forced him into a pumboat. The suspects escaped with their captive on three pumpboats toward Naga and Payao towns.

Police units in Zamboanga Sibugay have been alerted as rescue operations are ongoing.

Police said the kidnappers have yet to contact Bation’s family for any ransom demand.
