3 nabbed for guns, ammo at Cebu port
MANILA, Philippines — At least 46 improvised guns and various types of ammunition were seized from three passengers on a roll-on roll-off ferry at a port in Cebu City on Saturday night.
Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel arrested Velino, 36, and Flora Mae, 35, both surnamed Cubol, and Maria Bella Manot, 55, all residents of Barangay Suba, Danao, Cebu.
PCG personnel were conducting routine inspection when bomb-sniffing dogs detected gunpowder in the bags of the suspects.
“While the seized firearms were paltik... they... can still kill. We were able to avert the possibility that those firearms will fall into the wrong hands,” Capt. Armand Balilo, PCG spokesman, said yesterday.
