2 rob suspects slain in shootout
MANILA, Philippines — Two suspected robbers were killed in an alleged clash with policemen in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.
Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel Jr., director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said the encounter happened in Barangay Pinyahan at around 2:10 a.m.
The unidentified suspects were spotted by police officers on routine patrol operations while reportedly robbing a construction worker along NIA Road.
“The operatives quickly stopped and identified themselves as policemen and told them to stop,” said Esquivel in a report.
Instead of surrendering, the robbers allegedly opened fire at the police officers and a shootout ensued.
Esquivel said a 9mm pistol, a .22 caliber revolver and a .38 caliber revolver were recovered from the suspects.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the suspects’ identities.
