Trillanes: Duterte removed my police detail

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV confirmed last night that the Philippine National Police (PNP) has recalled his police security detail.

 On the sidelines of a concert at Malingap, Quezon City last night, Trillanes said his police detail was recalled last month.

A vocal critic of the administration, Trillanes has repeatedly drawn the ire of President Duterte for his allegations about his more than P2 billion in undeclared wealth.

In a speech in Cebu City last month, Duterte hit Trillanes for acting “tough and threatening” and thinking that he is better than he actually is because he was part of the Philippine Navy.

The President continued by saying that Trillanes is “always calling for a fight. He believes that he’s the only tough one around because nobody fought him back. But there will come a day that someone will shoot him because he’s arrogant.”

He said he would not be cowed by the threats of the President and vowed to continue  speaking out against him.

 “Now, as to his threat that somebody would shoot me someday, only Duterte would want me dead because it irks him that somebody dared to stand toe to toe with him,” Trillanes said.
