Pickup plows into pedestrians in Zamboanga City; 1 dead, 6 hurt

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A woman was killed while six others were injured when a pickup plowed into pedestrians in this city on Sunday.

Police identified the fatality as Mary Jamarulin.

Initial investigation showed the driver of the pickup, Abdel Alpan, sped off after hitting Jamarulin along Don Alfaro road in Barangay Tetuan. The pickup also hit two balut vendors and their customers near a barangay hall.

Alpan told police he was trying to avoid a portion of a road under repair, but lost control of the wheel. He also claimed he was not aware that he hit Jamarulin.

He is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide with mulitple injuries and damage to properties.
