Barangay chief hurt in gun attack

MANILA, Philippines — A barangay chairwoman was wounded after she was shot by an unidentified assailant at her house in Binondo, Manila on Saturday night.

Adora Usero, 47, had just arrived from the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay where newly elected barangay officials were sworn into office when the suspect broke into her house along Camba street and fired at her at around 8 p.m.

Residents in the area said they heard several gunshots before the assailant fled toward Madrid street.

Probers said they have yet to establish the motive for the attack.
