Man, woman held for rape

MANILA, Philippines — A man and a woman who work for an online shopping company were arrested after one of their colleagues accused them of raping her in Tondo, Manila before dawn Wednesday. 

The 23-year-old complainant told police John Paul Azusano, 30, and Jolly Fe Mercadal, 29, and another male co-employee invited her for drinks in their house on Elcano B, Dagupan street but after she drank 10 glasses Azusano told her no one was leaving, according to Superintendent Robert Domingo, Manila Police District Station 2 commander.

Since she was tipsy, the complainant said she decided to stay and sleep beside Mercadal. She said she tried to fight Azusano and asked Mercadal, who was awake, for help. Mercadal turned away as Azusano raped her, the complainant said.

The complainant said the suspects detained her until MPD Station 2 police officers rescued her after her sister sought their help.
