2 robbery suspects slain in Tondo shootout
MANILA, Philippines — Two alleged robbers were killed in an alleged shootout in Tondo, Manila before dawn yesterday.
Vanessa Joy Cruz, 33, appeared at the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 1 and reported that two men on a motorcycle robbed her along Capulong street at around 1:45 a.m.
Cruz’s relative also called the Criminal Intelligence and Detection Group, which coordinated with the station.
MPD Station 1 commander Superintendent Jay Dimaandal ordered chokepoints set up in the area.
A team led by Senior Inspector Dave Abarra and Chief Inspector Nino Briones spotted the suspects cruising along Marala street at around 3:30 a.m. The two men reportedly shot at the lawmen.
Police recovered two .38 caliber revolvers, six sachets of shabu and Cruz’s bag from the slain suspects.
Meanwhile, an alleged drug pusher identified only as “Kulot” was killed in another alleged shootout during a sting in Quiapo, Manila at around 4:40 p.m. Thursday.
Kulot died while undergoing treatment at the Mother and Child Hospital.
Police recovered a .38 caliber revolver; 10 sachets of shabu, three of them from Kulot’s pocket; and the marked money.
