Japanese stranded at NAIA

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A Japanese man spent four days stranded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 after his belongings, including his passport, was stolen by three women.

Tetsuya Makita, 58, was waiting in the departure area’s curbside for his flight to Narita at around 2:25 p.m. on June 16 when three women approached him, airport security personnel Jaime Estrella said.

Makita told authorities that one of the women asked him, in Japanese, for the time. The two other women stole his luggage as he was talking to the first woman.

Makita appealed to Estrella to locate his luggage because it contained his passport, important papers, cell phone and 50,000 yen.

The Japanese stayed in Estrella’s office while waiting for the Japanese embassy to issue another copy of his passport.

Makita left for Narita last Wednesday
