More soldiers deployed in CDO, Negros vs NPA rebels
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Leyte-based 65th Infantry Battalion (IB) will be deployed in this city and in Talakag, Bukidnon to help in the campaign against New People’s Army (NPA) rebels.
Maj. Gen. Ronald Villanueva, 4th Infantry Division commander, ordered the deployment of more soldiers after Councilor Romeo Calizo bared in a privilege speech on Monday that the NPA is conducting massive recruitment in this city.
Villanueva also cited reports that some barangay captains are providing logistical support to the NPA.
He said they submitted the names of these barangay officials to the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
In Negros Oriental, personnel of the 94th IB arrived recently to help secure government projects against NPA rebels. Three other battalions are conducting security operations against communist guerrillas on the island. – Gilbert Bayoran
