Car thief slain in Caloocan shootout

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A suspected car thief was killed in an alleged encounter with police in Bagong Silang, Caloocan yesterday.

The still unidentified man, aged 25 to 30, allegedly fought back during a dragnet operation at Tala Cemetery in Barangay 176 at past midnight.

Police said they responded to the incident after loan manager Tiffany Chantel Mcbride reported that three suspects riding two black Yamaha motorcycles held her up and took her Suzuki Raider J 155 motorcycle.

The suspects fled when police flagged them down in Barangay 176 during a dragnet operation, resulting in a chase and an alleged encounter with the suspects.

While one suspect – clad in a blue sweatshirt and with tattoos on his feet – was killed, two of his companions escaped.

Police recovered from the suspect a loaded .38 caliber Armscor firearm and four sachets of suspected shabu.
