Drug suspects kill Isabela town police chief
MANILA, Philippines — The police chief of Mallig town in Isabela was killed in a drug raid on Sunday.
Senior Inspector Michael Angelo Tubaña, 31, was with Police Officer 2 Edwin Gumpal and two undercover agents when suspected drug personalities Warren Bulawit, 19, and a 17-year-old resisted arrest and opened fire in Barangay Centro at around 10:15 p.m.
Tubaña was shot in the body and died while being treated in a hospital.
The suspects were arrested yesterday morning.
In Laguna, dismissed police officer Arnel Aguilan, alias Parak, a “high-value” target, allegedly drew his gun when he sensed he had sold shabu to an anti-narcotics agent who posed as a buyer in Barangay Tunhac, Famy at around 9:55 p.m.
Aguilan was declared dead on arrival at the Pakil General Cailles District Hospital.
Balut vendor Marcelo Pagulayan, 46, reportedly shot it out with police officers in Barangay Caggay, Tuguegarao, Cagayan.
In Bacolod, Salvador Poja, 30, a cousin of slain drug gang leader Ramy Poja, was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen yesterday.
Poja, a dance instructor, was on his way to work when he was shot. He died at the scene.
