2 slain in Tondo shootings
MANILA, Philippines — Two men, including an alleged police asset, died in separate shootings in Tondo, Manila on Monday night.
Angelito Samonte, 41, was resting at his house along Perla street when an unidentified man arrived and called him at around 10:45 p.m.
Investigation conducted by Senior Police Officer 3 Charles Duran of the Manila Police District (MPD) homicide unit showed that the assailant knocked on the door and asked Samonte to come out but the latter refused.
The suspect broke into Samonte’s house and fired at him before fleeing.
MPD Station 1 commander Superintendent Jay Dimaandal said Samonte was a police asset, who was on the drug watchlist.
Dimaandal said Samonte coordinated with the National Bureau of Investigation last month, which led to the arrest of a drug suspect.
Meanwhile, a suspected drug peddler was killed when he allegedly engaged police in a firefight in Tondo.
MPD Station 7 commander Superintendent Jerry Corpuz said a policeman who posed as a buyer was able to buy a sachet of shabu from Daniel Menson at around 11:30 p.m.
Police said they recovered a .38-caliber handgun, two sachets of shabu and the marked money from Menzon.
