Albayalde orders random drug tests for cops
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde yesterday ordered random drug tests for police officers after a member of the elite Special Action Force (SAF) tested positive for shabu in Taguig City over the weekend.
He said Police Officer 3 Lynn Tubig, 38, has been ordered dismissed from the police service after she failed the drug test.
Tubig, assigned to the SAF’s Force Support Battalion at Camp Bagong Diwa, was allegedly caught in a drug session with Fernando German, 43, and John Vincent German, 21, at John Vincent’s house on June 2.
When Tubig was presented during a press briefing at Camp Crame, Albayalde said he noticed her smirking several times “because she is still high on drugs.”
“She is not in her right mind… She will say what she wants to say. How can she deny she tested positive? That’s science, forensics,” he said.
Albayalde said Tubig’s arrest was incidental – police officers were responding to a theft complaint when they spotted a man holding a gun. The man ran towards some shanties situated along a wall and police officers found the three suspects using shabu.
With over 190,000 members, Albayalde admitted the PNP could not prevent that some of its personnel could be involved in illegal activities.
“What is really important here is we want to show to the public and the PNP that we are serious in our campaign on internal cleansing,” he said.
