Robbery, drug suspects gunned down
MANILA, Philippines — An alleged leader of a criminal gang and a drug suspect were killed in reported encounters with police officers in Negros Occidental and Quezon, respectively, on Sunday.
Johnny Villaret, alias JR, was carrying a replica of an M16 rifle, when he and his two companions allegedly tried to rob Police Officer 2 Eric Pableo in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City.
Pableo shot the suspects and hit Villaret, who died at the scene.
One of the suspects identified as Rustan Picardal was wounded while another escaped.
Police said the suspects were tagged in robberies in Bacolod and neighboring areas.
In Quezon, Don Ibanez, who was ranked second on the drug watchlist in Lucena, drew his gun when he sensed he had sold shabu to undercover agents in Barangay Cotta.
Senior Superintendent Osmundo de Guzman, Quezon police director, said the fatality was a known supplier of shabu in Lucena and nearby towns. – Ed Amoroso, Michelle Zoleta
