PNP chief pushes barcodes for recruits
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde is pushing for the adoption of a barcode system for the PNP’s police recruitment and selection processes to eliminate corruption, insider intervention and political intercession.
Albayalde said barcoding would help the PNP establish systematic records of police applicants who have already applied but flunked either medical or physical tests during the application process.
“We want change in recruitment (process) from the start,” he said during an interview aired over One News, the news channel of Cignal TV.
He said the system would rid the recruitment process of corruption and eliminate applicants who still manage to join the PNP despite failing the neuropsychiatric test.
Albayalde said while the PNP takes endorsements from politicians into consideration, applicants “have to undergo medical and physical examination and there is no intervention there.”
Albayalde was the featured guest in the premier episode of talk show The Chiefs, which aired Monday night on Cignal TV Channels 8 and 250.
