DepEd exec mulls charges over fake FB page

MANILA, Philippines — An undersecretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) will pursue charges against the people behind a fake Facebook page that attributed a malicious statement to him.

Undersecretary Tonisito Umali denied owning the “Palarong Pambansa” Facebook page, which published a supposed remark he made regarding the weight of teachers.

“That’s not my post. That’s not my fan or Facebook page,” he told The STAR. “Will file charges against the person responsible for this criminal act.”

The malicious post was shared over 10,000, with many comments expressing anger towards Umali for a statement he said he never made.

The Facebook page, which had over 2,600 followers, remains active as of yesterday afternoon.
