Fruit stand helper in Camarines Sur nabbed for employer’s slay
MANILA, Philippines — A fruit stand helper was arrested in Camarines Sur Thursday, five days after he stabbed dead his employer when he allegedly failed to rape her in Pasig City on May 19.
Abner Querubin, 31, was arrested at a bus terminal in Barangay Mayogob, Ocampo town while waiting for his partner, Elsa de Silva.
Querubin, who faces a charge of murder, admitted to stabbing businesswoman Sohiama Macarumpit, 25, in her rented room in Barangay Pinagbuhatan at around 6 p.m. on May 19.
Chief Superintendent Reynaldo Biay, Eastern Police District (EPD) director, said they are eyeing rape as a motive for Macarumpit’s killing.
Witnesses told Senior Superintendent Orlando Yebra Jr., Pasig police chief, that Querubin was drunk when he committed the crime. It was Querubin’s eight-year-old son who discovered Macarumpit’s body.
De Silva, afraid that Macarumpit’s relatives might go after her and their children, coordinated with Yebra for her partner’s arrest.
