Malabon fire leaves 1,000 families homeless

MANILA, Philippines — More than 1,000 families lost their homes after a fire broke out at a residential area in Malabon City yesterday afternoon.

Witnesses said the fire started in a house with illegal power connections on Governor Pascual street in Barangay Catmon just before 1 p.m. The blaze destroyed around 450 houses and reached Task Force Bravo around three hours later, fire marshall Stephen Requina said.

There were unverified reports that two persons were injured and a minor was missing.

The BFP declared the fire under control at around 4:45 p.m. Arson investigators have yet to determine what caused the fire.
