Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A traffic enforcer of the Navotas City government was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants in the city on Sunday night.

Jo Edson Gubrian of the city Traffic and Parking Management Office was killed along M. Naval street in Barangay Tangos at around 8:45 p.m.

Case investigator Police Officer 1 Ferdinand Martinez said they have yet to establish the motive for the killing.

Meanwhile, in Quezon City, a man claiming to be a traffic enforcer of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was arrested for allegedly extorting money from motorists early yesterday morning.

Reynante Pascasio is in the custody of the Galas police station.

Police said Pascasio was nabbed while wearing an MMDA uniform beside his motorcycle, which had an unauthorized blinker along Araneta Avenue in Barangay Pansol at around 1:30 a.m.

He failed to show proof that he is a member of the MMDA.

Superintendent Tomas Nunez, commander of the Galas police, said they conducted the operation after receiving information that Pascasio was allegedly involved in extortion.

The suspect’s arrest came after a month of surveillance, Nunez said.– Romina Cabrera
