Soldier slain in clash with NPA rebels

MANILA, Philippines — A soldier was killed in an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in General Nakar, Quezon on Monday.
The fatality was identified as Sgt. Jun Ray Samillano.
Two rebels, who yielded two shotguns, were arrested following the clash.
Gen. Arnulfo Burgos, 202nd Infantry Division commander, said the clash occurred when soldiers of the 2nd Jungle Fighter Company were deployed in Barangay Umiray after receiving reports on the sighting of communist rebels. – Michelle Zoleta
